Trade Days 2005 is almost here. Javier Alarcon, nationally known Aztec performer, will be returning to Trade Days again this year. He is bringing with him The Papantla Flyers, Los Voladores, who were here in 1997 and 1998! You do not want to miss this! We are very grateful to president Doug McFadden and the Trade Days Committee for continuing to bring Javier in for the festival. Javier is a world-class performer who has appeared around the world. His performances are always a special treat and the addition of The Papantla Flyers this year will bring new energy to the festival. In addition to the scheduled performances, Javier Alarcon and tribal representatives from Native Way Productions will hold the opening ceremony on Thursday morning, June 23, to ask for the blessings from the Creator for the festival. This is the only event held on Thursday and there is no charge. It will take place at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Snake Mountain, above the old Trade School grounds. My recommendation for anyone wishing to attend this opening ceremony is to be at the old Trade School building on the festival grounds just off US Hwy 421 (full directions below) by 8:00 a.m. Thursday morning and follow the train of vehicles up the mountain. I highly recommend carpooling as the road is a narrow, winding, gravel road with very little parking at the top. If you come hungry, be there around 7:00 - 7:30 a.m. and enjoy breakfast (for a small donation) which is being served inside the old Trade School building. After breakfast everyone gathers outside and heads up the mountain in a caravan for the opening ceremony. |
